As a result of repatriation efforts, Ukraine has received the bodies of 1,000 deceased citizens from Russia, which the Russian side claims belong to Ukrainian soldiers, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The Headquarters reported that among the repatriated are the bodies of five Ukrainian servicemembers who died in Russian captivity. These individuals were listed as “seriously wounded and seriously ill” prisoners slated for exchange under the Istanbul agreements.

“The Russian side continues to delay and fail to fulfill its obligations. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all seriously ill and severely wounded captives and is fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens,” the Coordination Headquarters stated.

The repatriated bodies also include defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk fronts.

In the near future, law enforcement investigators, together with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations and identification procedures for the repatriated bodies.
