European Parliament to open permanent office in Kyiv – Metsola

A European Parliament office will be opened in Kyiv, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada.
Metsola said the European Parliament will continue to support Ukraine "at every step" until peace is achieved and Ukraine "takes its place in the European family."
Opening a permanent European Parliament office in Ukraine will strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, she added.
"This was our commitment to you, and we are fulfilling it," Metsola said.
She also stated that the EU will soon adopt its 19th sanctions package against Russia, continue to phase out Russian oil and gas, and combat Russia’s shadow fleet.
Metsola noted that the next step in Ukraine’s path to EU membership will be opening the "fundamentals cluster" for negotiations.
The official emphasized that Ukraine’s EU accession is a security guarantee for Kyiv and stressed that restoring the powers of anti-corruption bodies is a key foundation for EU membership.
