Baby born in Kyiv maternity hospital shelter during Russian missile attack
A baby boy was born in the shelter of a Kyiv maternity hospital during Russia’s overnight missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital, as the hospital building above was damaged by the strikes.
A baby boy was born in the shelter of Kyiv’s Mostytskyi maternity hospital early on Sept. 24 as Russian missiles and drones targeted the Ukrainian capital.
The baby was born at 2:05 a.m., while patients and medical staff were sheltering from the attack, according to Kyiv’s Health Department.
No patients or hospital staff were injured.
The attack damaged windows and doors from the first through fifth floors of the maternity hospital, as well as windows in its laundry and boiler facilities.
Hospital staff said they were clearing away broken glass and putting the building back in order while continuing to provide care to patients.
“Even on such a terrible night, life goes on,” said Tetiana Mostepan, head of Kyiv’s Health Department. “Our medical workers remain with their patients under any circumstances and do everything possible to ensure that care is provided on time.”
Russia attacked Kyiv overnight with ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones. Two people were killed and at least 12 others were injured across the capital.
