Ukraine prepares to sell Russian-owned cargo ship held at Black Sea port since 2022

Ukraine's Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) is preparing to sell the seized bulk carrier EMMAKRIS III, formerly owned by a company registered in Russia, after the vessel remained at the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk in Odesa Oblast since 2022.
The agency announced the planned sale on October 16, saying the ship could potentially be used as a floating grain storage facility.
Built in 2000, the EMMAKRIS III is 225 meters (738 feet) long and 32.26 meters (106 feet) wide, with a deadweight capacity of 73,281 metric tons and seven cargo holds.
According to ARMA, an appraisal found the vessel to be in satisfactory technical condition. The agency said it could be used to transport or store dry bulk cargo, including grain, potentially providing additional storage and handling capacity for Ukraine's logistics sector.
Before its seizure, the vessel belonged to a company registered in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. In April 2023, Kyiv's Pecherskyi District Court ordered that the arrested ship be transferred to ARMA for management.
The agency said preparations for the sale were intended to ensure a transparent and competitive process and generate economic benefits for the Ukrainian state.
ARMA has not announced an auction date, asking price or prospective buyer.
According to vessel-tracking service VesselFinder, the latest available movement updates for the EMMAKRIS III date back to 2022.
