13-year-old Ukrainian pole vaulter clears 4.70 meters for world age-group best

Ukrainian pole vaulter Omelian Herasymchuk, 13, cleared 4.70 meters at a national competition in Lviv, setting the world’s best known mark for athletes under 14, Suspilne Sport reported.
Herasymchuk cleared 4.20, 4.30 and 4.40 meters on his first attempts, securing victory after the eventual silver medalist stopped at 4.10 meters.
He then continued competing, clearing a personal-best 4.55 meters on his second attempt before reaching 4.67 meters on his third.
That surpassed the previous world age-group best of 4.65 meters, set by Norway’s Pål Haugen Lillefosse in 2015.
Herasymchuk then cleared 4.70 meters on his third attempt, improving the mark again.
The athlete from Ukraine’s Donetsk region had already held the world’s best mark for athletes under 13, clearing 4.22 meters last year. He improved his personal best several times in 2026, reaching 4.40 and then 4.50 meters before the competition in Lviv.
