The European Commission has organized a logistical operation to transfer equipment of a full thermal power plant to Ukraine from Lithuania, say Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and the European Commission.

In total, the operation lasted 11 months and involved 149 shipments of equipment weighing a total of 2,399 tons. Among these, 40 were oversized shipments, including heavy transformers and stators weighing about 172 tons each.

The Polish Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves also assisted in the transportation of this equipment.

This operation enabled emergency repairs in several regions of Ukraine where the energy infrastructure has been severely damaged by Russian strikes. The European Commission says the equipment is capable of supplying power to around 1 million Ukrainians.

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak thanked the partners for providing the equipment, which “helped restore critical energy capacity and strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system, which unfortunately continues to be targeted by Russian attacks.”

Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, called the delivery of this power plant “European solidarity in action and our most demanding logistical operation to date.”

“I thank Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and all partners who ensured the success of this colossal operation. It is a powerful demonstration of the EU’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s resilience, helping ensure light and heat for one million people as they face a fourth winter of Russia's war of aggression,” the official added.
