EU agrees terms to release €6.6 billion in military support funds for Ukraine
EU member states have agreed on the terms for releasing €6.6 billion ($7.8 billion) from the European Peace Facility to support Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.
Of the total, €900 million will go toward the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine, while another €1 billion will fund new joint procurement of military equipment.
The remaining €4.7 billion will be used to reimburse EU member states for military assistance they have provided to Ukraine. Some countries have already said they intend to channel their share of the reimbursements back to Ukraine, Kallas said.
“That’s good news for Ukraine and bad news for Russia,” Kallas wrote on X.
The agreement resolves a dispute over how to use the €6.6 billion in European Peace Facility funds. Germany had proposed in June that the entire amount be directed to Ukraine, while Poland sought reimbursement for military aid it had previously provided through the fund.
