Ukraine installs concrete shelters at Kyiv gas stations amid Russian attacks

he shelters are being installed at stations in densely populated areas and near major roads and will be available to anyone nearby during attacks, the company said.

Ukrnafta said similar shelters had already proved effective in frontline regions, prompting the company to expand the measure to Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.

The company is also reinforcing its gas stations with gabions — metal structures filled with sand, stone or gravel designed to provide protection from explosions and debris. Twenty-five Ukrnafta stations in Kyiv and the surrounding region have already been equipped with them.

Last week, gabions at one of the company's Kyiv gas stations helped contain an explosion and prevented debris from spreading widely, reducing risks to pedestrians and motorists nearby, Ukrnafta CEO Bohdan Kukura said.

The additional protection comes as Kyiv and the surrounding region have faced repeated Russian attacks. Regional authorities have also said gas stations in Kyiv Oblast will be given access to an air-awareness system used by Ukraine's Defense Forces to receive earlier warnings of potential threats.
