US announces $1 billion aid package to Ukraine, and SBU attacks oil depots near Russia's Smolensk: April 24 highlights

The US Department of Defense announced a $1 billion aid package to Ukraine right after President Joe Biden signed a $61 billion bill approved by the Senate. The SBU struck two oil depots near Russia’s Smolensk. We collected the main news for April 24, 2024.

Aid to Ukraine from the United States

US President Joe Biden signed a bill on aid to Ukraine , which was recently passed by both chambers of the US Congress, announcing the rapid shipment of weapons.

At the same time, the US Ministry of Defense published a complete list of military aid that Ukraine will receive. The total value of the package is $1 billion. In particular, it included:

  • RIM-7 and AIM-9M air defense missiles;
  • Stinger anti-aircraft missiles;
  • small arms and ammunition for them, in particular cartridges for the destruction of UAVs;
  • ammunition for HIMARS systems;
  • 155 mm and 105 mm artillery rounds, as well as 60mm mortar rounds;
  • Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and more.

SBU attack on oil depots near Smolensk

The authorities of Smolensk Oblast of the Russian Federation reported a nighttime attack by Ukrainian drones, as a result of which fuel and energy facilities caught fire in the territory of the Smolensk and Yartsevo districts.

Subsequently, a hromadske source in the special services said that the Security Service of Ukraine was behind the attack on two Russian oil depots in Smolensk Oblast. As a result of the impact, Russia could have lost 26,000 cubic meters of fuel.

Meeting of the HACCU in the case of Minister Solskyi

The meeting of the Higher Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine regarding the selection of pre-trial restriction against Minister of Agrarian Policy Mykola Solskyi was postponed to April 25 , because he was summoned to the parliament.

Solskyi told reporters that he does not consider himself guilty and does not agree with the prosecution in the case of taking state land during the time when he worked as a lawyer.

Later, the Ukrainian ligislature registered a draft resolution on the dismissal of the Minister of Agrarian Policy from his position. It was registered at the initiative of a group of lawmakers from the Batkivshchyna party.

Ban on sending passports abroad

The government has banned sending external passports and passports of citizens of Ukraine of conscripts abroad.

Thus, male citizens from 18 to 60 years of age will be able to obtain a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and a foreign passport at the territorial divisions of the State Migration Service inside the country.
