Ukraine returns 140 fallen defenders
As a result of repatriation measures, Ukraine was able to return the bodies of 140 fallen soldiers, reported the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
In particular, it was possible to repatriate 112 bodies of defenders who fought on the Donetsk axis; 20 fallen soldiers who were on the Luhansk axis; five bodies of defenders from the Sumy axis; two fallen soldiers from the Zaporizhzhia axis; and one from the Kherson axis.
Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine will transport the repatriated bodies and remains to designated state institutions. Representatives of law enforcement agencies and forensic medical experts will identify the victims, and after identification, the defenders' bodies will be handed over to their families for a dignified burial.
The Coordination Headquarters noted that the slain defenders were returned thanks to the cooperation of the HQ with the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, and other representatives of the agencies of the security and defense sector of Ukraine. Special thanks were expressed to the International Committee of the Red Cross for assistance.
Last time, on April 12, Ukraine returned the bodies of 99 Ukrainian soldiers who died at the front. They fought on the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv axes.
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said in March that more than 2,800 bodies and body fragments of dead Ukrainian service members have already been identified.
