Changes in decision-making by military medical commissions, Zelenskyy and Poroshenko wanted in Russia: May 4 highlights

Members of military medical commissions will not be able to make decisions about a person's suitability for military service at their own discretion. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and his predecessor, MP Petro Poroshenko, were declared wanted in Russia. We have collected the main news for May 4.

Changes in decision-making by the military medical commissions

The Ministry of Defense assures that with the new changes to the legislation, members of military medical commissions will not be able to make decisions about a person's suitability for military service at their own discretion.

Also, among other things, Ukraine has changed the procedure for appealing the resolutions of the Military Police: the repeated military medical commission will be held in another institution.

Search for Ukrainian officials in the Russian Federation

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his predecessor Petro Poroshenko, and later the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Pavliuk, were declared wanted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the announcement of the wanted Ukrainian officials "evidence of desperation". Meanwhile, Poroshenko called the announcement of him wanted in Russia "recognition and almost a military award". He says that this is how his activities in recent years have gained "high marks".

Shooting near a military commissariat in Zakarpattya Oblast

In the town of Vynohradiv, Zakarpattya Oblast, a group of people came to the building of the military commissariat in the evening and tried to force open the entrance gate. The police officers on the spot established that in this way the representatives of the settlement from the village of Onok expressed their dissatisfaction due to the mobilization of two of their friends.

When they tried to open the gate by force, the military commissariat employees fired warning shots into the air. Investigators qualified the incident under Part 4 of Art. 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism. Currently, the actions of each of the participants must be given a legal assessment.

Downed Russian Su-25

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on May 4 that the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft in Donetsk Oblast.

"I would especially like to commend the soldiers of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade for shooting down another Russian Su-25 in Donetsk Oblast today. Well done, guys!" he said.

Assessment of provision of one Ukrainian military

The Ministry of Defense said that providing one serviceman (without weapons) costs the state budget $30,000, or about 1.2 million hryvnias.

They also noted that the cost of Ukraine's mobilization campaign will depend on several factors: the monthly draft, the aid receipt factor, and rotation decisions.
