Orthodox and Greek Catholics celebrated the most important Christian holiday – the Resurrection of Christ. In Berdyansk, the car of a collaborator who organized torture chambers was blown up. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew called for the exchange of prisoners of war according to the principle of "all for all". We collected the main news for May 5.

Easter

On Sunday, May 5, Ukrainian Orthodox and Greek Catholics celebrated the Resurrection of Christ. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate held their main Easter services at night, and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the morning.

The Primate of the OCU, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius noted that "hell loses its power over humanity just when it seems that it is triumphant."

The head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized that Christ's Resurrection liberates from "personal weaknesses, fears and uncertainties."

Liquidation of a collaborator in Berdyansk

In the temporarily occupied Berdyansk of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the car of a local collaborator, Yevhen Ananievskyi, who organized torture chambers for Ukrainian prisoners of war, was blown up.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the liquidation. Ananievskyi died on the spot as a result of the explosion.

Call of Patriarch Bartholomew

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in his Easter address called for the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine on the principle of "all for all".

In his Easter message on March 31, the Pope expressed a similar wish for the exchange of all prisoners between Russia and Ukraine on the principle of "all for all."

A cadet's complaint

21-year-old serviceman Oleksandr Popovych said that he was expelled from the Hetman Petr Sahaidachnyi National Academy of Ground Forces. This allegedly happened because of his active position.

Popovych noted that he was transferred to a training center "under the control of the academy" as a mobilized person. He also stated that he should be sent to "zero".

The educational institution announced a "coordinated discrediting campaign aimed at destabilizing the situation."

Suspension of a policewoman in Odesa

In Odesa, a policewoman recorded a video in which she expresses her displeasure and curses because of the need to be on duty near a church on Easter and shows indifference to the death of people in an attack.

The police stressed that such behavior is unacceptable, disgraces the work of a law enforcement officer, and was met with a "principled and tough" response from the management. Currently, the policewoman has been suspended from work. An official investigation has also been initiated.

Attacks

On Easter night, the Russians hit the detached housing neighborhood of Kharkiv with a drone. Five people were injured. Then the Russians struck Kharkiv again, injuring 10 residents.

Russians also attacked the village of Monachynivka, Kharkiv Oblast, killing an 88-year-old woman and injuring a 34-year-old man.

In addition, on the morning of May 5, Russian troops shelled the village of Mykhailivka, Donetsk Oblast. Three civilians were injured.

Easter basket at Eurovision 2024

The solemn opening ceremony of the international song contest "Eurovision-2024" took place in Malmö, Sweden. This is the so-called turquoise corridor, through which all participants of the competition pass.

Representatives from Ukraine, Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil, held an Easter basket, which they then gifted to one of the presenters.
