Offensive in Kharkiv Oblast, US aid, attack on oil refinery in Russia: May 10 highlights

The Russian army tried to break through the defense line in the north of Kharkiv Oblast and intensified shelling of the region. The USA announced the provision of a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $400 million. Defense Intelligence once again hit the Russian oil refinery near Kaluga. Offensive in Kharkiv Oblast
On the morning of May 10, the Russian troops tried to break through the defense line in the north of Kharkiv Oblast. The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to defend positions in the region. At approximately 5 a.m., the enemy tried to break through the defense line under the cover of armored vehicles.
At the same time, the Russians intensified shelling of the border communities of Kharkiv Oblast. As a result of enemy attacks, two people were killed and five others were injured.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russian troops have launched a new wave of offensive operations in the Kharkiv sector. According to him, the military and the command knew about it and "calculated their forces in order to meet the enemy with fire." The president also assured that the command is aware of the enemy's plans.
US aid
The White House officially announced a new $400 million aid package to Ukraine. Among other things, it contains ammunition for the Patriot, NASAMS, HIMARS, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells.
In addition to the United States, military aid was announced in Canada: Ottawa will join the coalition to strengthen Ukrainian air defense and allocate more than 55 million dollars for this.
Another strike on Russian refinery
In Russia’s Kaluga Oblast, on May 10, the oil refinery Pervy Zavod caught fire.
Later it became known that the refinery was attacked by drones, and that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was behind this special operation.
According to preliminary information, the AVBT-101 atmospheric-vacuum tube installation (production capacity — processing of 1.2 million tons per year), as well as three tanks with diesel fuel and one tank with fuel oil were hit.
The Dovzhenko Center has a new head
The State Film Agency has appointed director and producer Andriy Donchyk as the general director of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio of Feature Films.

The agency noted that due to the martial law, the new head of the film studio was appointed without competitive selection.
Andriy Donchyk is a Ukrainian film and television director, producer, honored artist of Ukraine, winner of the film critics' prize of the Venice Film Festival in 1992 and a member of the National Union of Cinematographers.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces warned of a critical phase of the war
The commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavliuk believes that the critical phase at the front will come in the next two months, and now the Russians are looking for the most suitable direction for the offensive. At the same time, the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing 10 new brigades to repel Russian attacks.

According to him, while the American aid was just beginning to arrive at the front, the Russians are throwing all their combat-ready weapons there.
"Russia knows that if we get enough weapons within a month or two, the situation can turn against them," the commander said.
Prosthetics center in Lviv
In Lviv, with the support of the German government, the largest prosthetics and orthotics center in Ukraine, UNBROKEN, was opened.
It is located in a building with an area of 1,000 m², designed for 30 workplaces. It houses a prosthesis manufacturing center, classrooms for teaching and research, rooms for fitting and testing prostheses, and a courtyard for relaxation. The plan is to manufacture 1,200 prostheses per year.
Klochka was chosen a pre-trial restriction
The High Anti-Corruption Court chose a pre-trial restriction for MP Andriy Klochko, who is suspected of illegal enrichment for more than 11 million hryvnias ($277,943).

The judge supported the position of the prosecutor and imposed a pre-trial restriction in the form of a 12 million UAH bail ($277,943). Also, a number of procedural duties were imposed on the lawmaker.

- The President of Slovakia, Zuzana Caputova, arrived in Kyiv on May 10. This is her farewell visit before the end of her mandate.
- Belgium will allocate an additional 9 million euros in aid to restore Ukrainian energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. This amount is part of a new package of support measures for Ukraine.
- The police of the Czech Republic announced a search for the general of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) Andrey Averyanov, who was involved in the organization of explosions at ammunition warehouses in the Czech town of Vrbetice in 2014.
- The Cabinet of Ministers allocated more than 7 billion hryvnias ($176.9 million) for the reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy system, which was damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
