The Ukrainian military shot down a Russian Su-25 plane near Avdiivka. The Ministry of Energy announced a slight increase in electricity tariffs for the population. Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast is under increased shelling, evacuation continues there. We collected the main news for May 11.

Downing of Russian warplane near Avdiivka

Anti-aircraft guns of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade shot down a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft near Avdiivka.

A week ago, on May 4, soldiers of the 110th Brigade also shot down a Russian Su-25. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the unit's fighters in his evening address.

Power tariff increase

The Ministry of Energy continues to discuss and make calculations regarding the increase in electricity tariffs for the population.

"It is obvious that a slight increase in the tariff will take place, but the decision has not yet been made, discussions and calculations are ongoing. But, most likely, it will happen in the near future," said Deputy Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.

"Vovchansk is full of smoke and all around is on fire"

Journalists who came to Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, report shelling, fires and destruction. Our correspondent said that the town is "all up in smoke."

"The streets are empty, burnt cars are standing, you can see that an warplane has arrived, destroyed houses, but not all. And it was really loud, that is, somewhere in the town or nearby, the shelling continued," our journalist said.

Currently, the Vovchansk community is under increased shelling by the Russian troops. On May 11, a 50-year-old man and a 48-year-old man were killed, and another civilian was injured as a result of the shelling of houses by guided aerial bombs. In addition, a 64-year-old man was injured in Vovchansk.

An attack on a Russian refinery

Drones of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine hit the Lukoil oil refinery in Volgograd Oblast of the Russian Federation in the early hours of May 11.

Among the damaged are primary oil processing installations.

Ukraine’s security service prevented terrorist attacks on May 9

The Security Service of Ukraine prevented terrorist attacks in Kyiv on May 9, which were planned to be carried out by the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (also known as the GRU).

"The SBU acted in advance, the perpetrators of the terrorist attack were arrested red-handed. An evidence base has also been collected that unquestionably confirms the Russian trail," the special service said.

The USA agreed to sell HIMARS to Ukraine

The US State Department has approved an emergency sale of approximately $30 million worth of HIMARS rocket launchers.

The purchase will be financed by the German government, and the weapons will be transferred from the stocks of the American Army.
