Battles in Kharkiv Oblast and dismissal of Russian Defense Minister Shoigu: May 12 highlights

In Kharkiv Oblast, defensive battles continue on a large part of the border strip. Vladimir Putin proposed to remove Sergei Shoigu from the post of minister of defense. Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery and two other facilities in Russia. We collected the main news for May 12.
The situation in Kharkiv Oblast
In the Kharkiv Oblast, defensive battles continue on a large part of the border strip. In the north of the region, the number of settlements where active hostilities continue has increased.
"There are villages that have actually turned from a "gray zone" into a zone of hostilities, and the occupier is trying to gain a foothold in some of them, and simply use some for further advancement," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
The Main Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense assured that it knew about the plans of the Russian military to launch offensive actions in Kharkiv Oblast.
The current situation in Donetsk Oblast is also difficult, primarily concerning the Pokrovsk axis.
Personnel changes in the Russian Federation
Vladimir Putin proposed to appoint a new minister of defense, and the current head of the department, Sergei Shoigu, received the post of secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation instead of Nikolai Patrushev.
Putin proposed to appoint former First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov as defense minister.
Attack on refinery in Volgograd
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense conducted a special operation during which it attacked three objects on the territory of Russia: the Volgograd Oil Refinery, the Kaluganefteprodukt oil depot in Ludinovo, Kaluga Oblast, and the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant.
Eurovision results
The winner of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest was Switzerland. The country’s representative Nemo with the song The Code received 591 points.
Second place went to the singer Baby Lasagna from Croatia with the song Rim Tim Tagi Dim, while Ukraine's representatives Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil with the song Teresa & Maria won bronze.

Collapse of building of Belgorod
In the Russian city of Belgorod, one of the entry sections of a high-rise building collapsed. The governor of the region accused the Ukrainian Defense Forces of shelling. The Ministry of Defense of Russia claims that the collapse occurred as a result of the work of their air defense system.
At the same time, at the Center for countering disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko suggested that the collapse of the entry section could have been caused by a deliberate detonation or a domestic explosion.
Later, the Russian authorities reported another shelling there. Early reports suggest that the CHP was under attack. In total, 12 Russians died in the city during the day.
