Almost 100% of drones manufactured in Ukraine, most of them by private companies
Almost 100% of drones for the Defense Forces are manufactured in Ukraine, with the largest share falling on private business, Deputy Minister of Defense Dmytro Klimenkov said in an interview with SMALL TALK.
A wide range of drones is being manufactured. Recently, the Defense Procurement Agency announced competitive bidding in closed mode through the Prozorro state platform for the purchase of 20,000 drones, with an estimated cost of up to 3 billion hryvnias ($74 million).
Klimenkov assured that the Ministry of Defense got "good results." So far, about 7,000 drones have been contracted, and another 7,000 are undergoing inspection and qualification.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the 2023 year-end press conference that in 2024 Ukraine plans to produce one million drones and increase artillery production.
Alexander Kamyshin, the minister of strategic industries, clarified that the one million drones announced by Zelenskyy for 2024 include only FPV ones. In addition, there is an opportunity to produce more than 10,000 medium and long-range strike drones.
