Strikes inside Russia German weapons will not lead to escalation, says Scholz

Strikes using German weapons on the territory of Russia will not lead to an escalation of the conflict, but will only enable Ukraine to protect its large cities, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Antenne Bayern radio, DW reports.
Scholz stressed that the decision to allow Ukraine to use German weapons for attacks on the Russian Federation was carefully thought out in cooperation with "friends and allies" of Germany.
At the same time, the German official assured that he would never allow pressure to be put on him in order to convince him to make "wrong and untimely decisions".
At the end of May, the German government allowed Ukraine to use German weapons in order to carry out strikes on the territory of Russia "in accordance with international law", but only on the border territories of the Russian Federation near Kharkiv Oblast.
Prior to that, Olaf Scholz spoke against the use of German weapons for attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation, emphasizing that there are "clear rules for the supply of German weapons, which were agreed with Ukraine and which are working."
