Security agreements with USA and Japan, $50 billion loan from G7: June 13 highlights

Ukraine has concluded bilateral security agreements with the USA and Japan. The leaders of the "Group of Seven" agreed to provide Ukraine with a loan of $50 billion, using the profits from frozen Russian assets. The 23rd meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format) took place. We collected the main news for June 13.

Ukraine has concluded security agreements with the USA and Japan

Ukraine has signed security agreements with the United States and Japan. The agreement with the USA provides that in the event of a new armed attack on Ukraine or such a threat, high-ranking officials of the two countries will meet within 24 hours for consultations. It should also be a step for possible membership of Ukraine in NATO.

At the same time, Japan undertakes to provide Ukraine with $4.5 billion in aid throughout 2024. In addition, Japan will help Ukraine in the field of security and defense. The states will cooperate in humanitarian, technical, financial, and other spheres.

G7 will provide Ukraine with $50 billion

The leaders of the "Group of Seven" agreed to provide Ukraine with a loan of $50 billion, attracting profits from the frozen assets of the Russian central bank as collateral.

Earlier, AFP reported that about $325 billion remains blocked.

Argentina joined the Ramstein format

Argentina joined the 23rd meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format), which was organized in Brussels.

In total, representatives of almost 50 partner countries appeared at the meeting.

According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, the main topic of the meeting is air defense systems to protect people and critical infrastructure from Russian attacks, and artillery.

At the same time, Norway announced that it would transfer to Ukraine 81 mm ammunition for mortars worth approximately NOK 480 million (more than EUR 41 million).

DTEK: In winter, there may be no power and heating for 20 hours at a time

The DTEK energy company warns that the worst scenario in the case of continued Russian attacks will be that Ukrainians will be without power and heating for 20 hours in winter.

This is, in particular, due to the fact that Ukrainian thermal and hydroelectric power plants, which have suffered Russian strikes, are difficult and expensive to repair.

A power unit will be taken out for repair

In the coming days, Energoatom will bring another 1,000 MW (1 GW) nuclear power unit into repair as part of the planned repair campaign. Due to this, the duration of power outages may increase.

58 Russian companies still import Western technologies

The non-governmental organization NAKO analyzed more than 2,000 components found in six aircraft of the Russian Air Force and discovered Western electronic elements.

The researchers managed to identify producers from 22 countries. 64% of components are manufactured by American companies, NAKO stated.

In total, there are at least 58 companies in Russia that still import Western technology through third countries.

Ukrainian outlet reports pressure from US politicians

Journalists of the Ukrainian analytical publication Texty.org.ua reported pressure and threats from American officials and politicians after the publication of material about US organizations and people who oppose support for Ukraine.

For example, businessman Elon Musk, whom Ukrainian journalists also mentioned in their piece, called for Texty.org.ua to be added to the list of terrorist organizations.

A Ukrainian painting was sold for a record $300,000

The painting by Ivan Marchuk, a painter from Ternopil Oblast, "The Moon Rises over the Dnipro" was sold at an auction for $300,000. This is a new auction record for a work by a contemporary Ukrainian artist.

The second record figure was set for Olha Rapay's sculptural composition Harlequin and Pierrot, reaching the mark of $35,000.
