In 6 months, Ukrainian military destroys over 30 Russian aircraft: most in Luhansk Oblast
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian Defense Forces have managed to destroy more than 30 different Russian warplanes. 12 Russian Su-34s were shot down in Luhansk Oblast alone, reported the Strategic Communications Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the map published by StratCom, a total of 13 Su-34 fighter-bombers were destroyed in the first half of 2024, including 12 of them in Luhansk Oblast and one in the south. In the south, one Russian Su-35 and its modification, the Su-35S, were also downed.
Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down nine Su-25 attack aircraft of the Russian army in Donetsk Oblast. Two MiG-31s were attacked in Crimea.
In addition, two more A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft were shot down over the Sea of Azov. One of them was destroyed in January, when one Russian Il-22M11 bomber was also hit.
Another strategic Russian Tu-22M3 bomber was attacked by Ukrainian defense forces at a distance of about 300 kilometers from Ukraine. Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate said that the operation to shoot down this plane lasted one week.
Also, for the first time in six months of the year, the Su-57 multi-purpose fighter was hit. It happened on June 8 at the Russian airfield Akhtubinsk in Astrakhan Oblast.
However, StratCom specified that the number of aircraft, their models and modifications, as well as the locations of damage on the published map are indicated conditionally. In particular, this is due to the fact that in some cases it was impossible to accurately establish the models of destroyed aircraft.
Some of these aircraft were damaged, but could return to airfields for long-term repairs.
