Air Force confirms damage to ammunition depot in Crimea

Commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Mykola Oleshchuk confirmed the successful destruction of a Russian ammunition depot in temporarily occupied Crimea on July 1.

He posted this on his social media page.

“Once again, Ukrainian planes ‘destroyed’ by enemy propaganda continue to successfully perform combat missions, launch missile and bomb attacks on the positions of the occupiers and eliminate important military facilities in the deep rear of the enemy,” Oleshchuk wrote.

As reported, on July 1, several explosions occurred in temporarily occupied Sevastopol, and the local occupation authorities claimed that air defence was operating and air targets were being destroyed.

According to the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, the explosions were likely to have taken place near the village of Flotske, where a military unit is located.

In turn, the Russian propaganda channel Kremlin Snuffbox reported that 26 Russian soldiers were allegedly killed in the attack on Crimea, and about 20 others were wounded. It also reports at least one destroyed S-300 air defence system.

What is known about the destroyed Ukrainian aircraft?

In the evening of July 1, Russian propaganda resources reported a missile attack on the airfield in Myrhorod, Poltava region. It was reported that at least 4 Su-27 fighter jets were allegedly destroyed. This incident caused a lot of outrage in society.

Former Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat commented on the outrage on social media about commanders who “failed to look after” the airfields.

“Check the official Telegram channel of the Air Force! They (the airfields) are under fire every day, being attacked by ballistic missiles every day, under the eyes of enemy drones and constant attacks! Our people on the ground are trying to protect what they have and strike back! And I will not elaborate on the incredible efforts they are making,” he stressed.

According to Ihnat, there was a strike on the airfield in Myrhorod and “there are some losses, but not quite as many as the enemy claims”.
