Ukrainian intelligence officers stop operation of Oskol Metallurgical Plant, which works for the Russian military-industrial complex

On the night of July 1, officers of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service attacked the Oskol Ugarov Electrometallurgical Plant in the Belgorod region. This is the only full-cycle metallurgical enterprise in Russia.

This was reported to hromadske by a source familiar with the situation.

On the night of July 1, Ukrainian kamikaze drones managed to hit two major power substations in the Belgorod region — Stary Oskol near the village of Neznamovo and Metallurgical near the village of Volokonovskoye. The latter is one of the largest power substations in Europe. As a result of their damage, the plant ceased operations.

After the attack, all electric arc furnaces at the plant stopped, as the metal froze. The source explained that in order to restart them, it is necessary to completely clean these furnaces and replace the arc elements, which may take several months.

Many companies serving the Russian military-industrial complex used the products of this plant, including GAZ, KAMAZ, UAZ, EPK and SKF bearing plants, and the AVTONORMAL plant.

They all used the metal to manufacture light armored vehicles, bearings for military vehicles and auto parts.

It should be noted that, on July 1, Belgorod region of Russia experienced power outages and water supply interruptions. Belgorodenergo claimed “technological disruptions caused by external influence on the energy facility”, and the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of July 1, 9 drones were “destroyed and suppressed” over the Belgorod region.
