Massive attack on Ukraine, security agreement with Poland: July 8 highlights

Russians massively attacked Ukraine, resulting in dozens of deaths and over a hundred wounded. Ukraine and Poland concluded a bilateral security agreement. Germany has provided Ukraine with a new package of military aid. We collected the main news for July 8.

Attack on Ukraine

On the morning of July 8, explosions rang out in several regions and Kyiv as Russia massively attacked Ukraine. Air defense shot down 30 out of 38 Russian missiles. In total, at least 33 people died, and more than 125 were injured.

In Kyiv, there are 27 dead, including three children, and 82 injured. According to preliminary data, 10 people died in Kryvyi Rih, and one person died in Dnipro. In total, 62 people were injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. In Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, at least three people were killed as a result of a morning missile attack.

50 objects were damaged, including residential buildings, infrastructure, and a children's hospital. According to the SBU, the Russians attacked the Okhmatdyt hospital with an Kh-101 missile. The blow fell on the toxicology building, where children received dialysis. There, the intensive care unit, operating theaters, and oncology departments were also damaged.

Against the background of the attack, Ukraine initiated the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on partners to provide the army with additional air defense systems and weapons.

Security agreement with Poland

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk signed a security agreement in Warsaw.

According to the head of the Ukrainian state, the two countries have agreements on the development of a mechanism to shoot down Russian missiles and drones launched in the direction of Poland in the airspace of Ukraine.

In addition, Ukraine and Poland agreed on the formation of a volunteer military unit from Ukrainian citizens residing in the EU countries.

New aid from Germany

Germany has announced a new package of military aid. In particular, it contains shells for tanks, the previously promised Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, and two modern radars.

Orbán visits China

Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived in the capital of China, Beijing. He declared: "After Kyiv and Moscow, we arrived in Beijing — the third station of the peace mission."

Following the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Hungarian premier said that the People's Republic of China is a "key player" in promoting peace in Ukraine. After his visit to China, Orbán flew to Washington, USA, where the NATO summit will begin on July 9.

Ukraine can get Polish MiG-29s

Poland is ready to transfer its own MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. However, the country's prime minister, Donald Tusk, said that the transfer of these planes should not take place "at the expense of Poland's security." Therefore, Kyiv will receive aircraft if Poland receives modern Western aircraft from its allies.
