New aid from USA, defeat of Wagner mercenaries in Mali: July 29 highlights

The United States announced new aid packages of $200 million and $1.5 billion for Ukraine. Malian rebels attacked Wagnerites, killing and injuring dozens of mercenaries. Ex-intelligence officer Roman Chervinskyi said that Valerii Zaluzhnyi gave permission for the operation, which allegedly led to the attack on Kanatove. We collected the main news for July 29.

Defense package from the USA

The United States allocated $200 million and $1.5 billion in military aid packages to Ukraine. In particular, the assistance includes anti-aircraft missiles, artillery shells and anti-tank weapons.

300,000 schoolchildren want to return to offline education

The Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Digital Transformation launched a comprehensive "School Offline" policy. The agencies aim to overcome educational attrition, create conditions for quality education both online and offline, and bring at least 300,000 students back to school.

Defeat of the Wagnerites in Mali

Malian rebels say they have killed and wounded dozens of mercenaries from the private military company Wagner during two days of fighting near the border with Algeria. Subsequently, the PMC confirmed the death of their mercenaries – all because of a sandstorm.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense believes that the successful operation of the Tuareg rebels against the Wagner group in Mali will have consequences for the whole of Russia. Intelligence also says that "there will be a continuation".

Chervinskyi said that Zaluzhnyi gave permission for the operation, allegedly because of which Kanatove was attacked

Ex-intelligence officer Roman Chervinskyi, who in 2022 took part in an unsuccessful operation to hijack a Russian plane, said that permission for this operation was given by the then Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

Chervinskyi also says that in his case, the participation of an SBU security service employee in the organization of a special operation is kept silent.

Strike on power stations in the Russian Federation

The Ukrainian military recently struck a number of traction power substations in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Explosions were heard in the areas of at least four substations. As a result, power outages are recorded in the Ponyrovsky, Kursk and Solntsevsky districts of the region.

Ukraine received new tanks

Germany, together with Denmark, transferred eight more Leopard 1 A5 tanks to Ukraine. Also, among the aid Germany provided in the latest package are Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft missiles and ground-based drones.

Slovakia threatens to stop the supply of diesel to Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico held a meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine Myroslav Kastran regarding the ban on the supply of oil from the Russian Lukoil. He stated that, as a result, Bratislava may limit the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine.

Higher position for the commander of the 80th Brigade

The soldiers of the 80th Halytska Separate Airborne Assault Brigade appealed to the president, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commander of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a request to not to suspend their commander Emil Ishkulov.

According to the fighters, commanders who have authority and experience are "unwanted" by the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, "because they are not afraid to voice problematic issues and report the real state of affairs, do not engage in throwing people under the bus and do not thoughtlessly put people on the way to the next ranks and orders."

Subsequently, the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that, in view of Colonel Ishkulov's combat and commanding experience, the military leadership decided to appoint him to a higher position.

Rally against persecution of Georgian volunteers

Today, July 29, a rally against the persecution of Georgian volunteers took place near the Georgian embassy in Kyiv. The authorities of Georgia are urged to immediately stop the persecution of fighters who fought for Ukraine.

The participants held the flags of both countries and placards, including "Silence kills", "SDB of Georgia is Russia", "We will not leave our brothers".
