Battles in Kursk Oblast, investigation into murder of captured Azov fighter Ishchenko: August 8 highlights

Ukraine has taken control of the Sudzha gas measuring station in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, according to media reports. Law enforcers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death in Russian captivity of Azov Brigade fighter Oleksandr Ishchenko. The Ministry of Defense launched the Army+ application, which is designed to digitize the document flow in the army. We collected the main news for August 8.

Achievements at the 2024 Olympics

Greco-Roman wrestlers Parviz Nasibov and Zhan Beleniuk won silver and bronze medals. Beleniuk confirmed the end of his sports career by taking off his wrestling boots in the ring.

WP: Ukraine controls the Sudzha gas metering station

The Washington Post, citing an unnamed adviser to the president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, writes that Ukraine has taken control of the Sudzha gas metering station, located approximately 8 kilometers deep into Russia.

At the same time, Bloomberg notes that the fighting in Kursk Oblast, which has been going on for the third day, has become the first case since the Second World War when the army of another country invaded the territory of Russia.

The Russian outlet Agentstvo notes that since the beginning of the breakthrough in Kursk Oblast, the Russian authorities have announced six times the alleged halt to the advance and even the retreat of the Ukrainian military, although the fighting is still ongoing.

The murder of Azov fighter Ishchenko: the prosecutor's office has started an investigation

Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Azov Brigade defender Oleksandr Ishchenko as a result of multiple injuries received in Russian captivity.

In general, law enforcement officers are currently investigating the murder of 64 Ukrainian prisoners of war by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. More than 2,200 prisoners of war were recognized as victims of torture.

Defenders destroyed the Russian flag in New York

Scouts of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade destroyed the Russian flag at a school in New York, Donetsk Oblast. Russia considered this flag proof of the capture of the village.

The Army+ application was launched

The Ministry of Defense presented the Army+ application, which digitizes document flow in the army. Currently, some functions are already available there, including reporting, and new elements are promised later.

Return of blackouts

On the evening of August 8, energy supply for industry and businesses was again limited in Ukraine.

Ukrenergo explained that the reasons for applying the restrictions were: power shortage in the system; high level of electricity consumption due to an increase in air temperature up to +30°C in the south and east of the country.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister German Halushchenko said that the regions that ignored the dispatcher's commands to limit consumption will be prosecuted.

Ukraine and Mauritius signed a visa-free agreement

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held talks with his colleague from Mauritius in the capital of the African country, Port Louis. In particular, they signed a visa-free agreement.

This was the first visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Mauritius since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1992.

Leniye Umerova is scheduled to be "tried" in Moscow this fall

The trial in the case of illegally detained Crimean Tatar woman Leniye Umerova, whom Russia accuses of espionage, may take place in Moscow in the fall, she wrote in a letter to her brother Aziz Umerov.

Putin was invited to the inauguration of the president of Mexico

The newly elected president of Mexico, Claudia Scheinbaum, invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to her inauguration.

At the same time, the Embassy of Ukraine stressed that Mexico recognizes the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, and therefore must execute the warrant for Putin's arrest, if he does come.
