Dismissal of Air Force commander, attacks on Kharkiv and Sumy: August 30 highlights

After the F-16 crash, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Mykola Oleschuk. Zelenskyy fired Oleschuk after the F-16 crash

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk from the position of commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after an F-16 jet crashed and its pilot Oleksiy Mes was killed.

Lieutenant General Anatoliy Kryvonozhko became the temporary acting commander.

The day before, MP Mariana Bezuhla accused the Air Force of a "culture of lies."

Oleschuk stated that he did not hide information about the crash of the F-16 aircraft, explaining that during the war such information cannot immediately enter the public space.

Strike on Kharkiv and Sumy

At night, the aggressor targeted a civil infrastructure facility in Sumy. Two people died as a result of the airstrike.

In the afternoon, the Russians carried out five aerial attacks from Belgorod Oblast on Kharkiv Oblast. As of 10 p.m. , seven dead and 59 injured have been confirmed.

Ukraine's first gold at the 2024 Paralympics

Oleksandr Komarov, a Ukrainian athlete from Mariupol, won gold in swimming at a distance of 100 meters freestyle. This is Ukraine's first gold award at this year's Paralympics.

In addition, swimmer Iryna Poyda and athlete Vladyslav Bilyi won silver.

Ukraine urged Mongolia to hand over Putin to The Hague

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that Mongolia will recognize Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a war criminal and arrest him when he comes there for a visit.

Ukraine’s Ecology Ministry unsure whether the Russians deliberately polluted the Seym

The pollution of the Seym River occurred on the territory of Russia as a result of the ingress of organic substances into the water. However, it is not yet known whether it was done on purpose or there was an accident, said First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi.

He suggested that the organic matter could have gotten there from a distillery or other enterprise.

Hladkyi was appointed to head the Unmanned Systems Force

Captain First Rank Roman Hladkyi was appointed Chief of Staff of the Command of the Forces of Unmanned Systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Until April 2018, he was the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He was fired from this position amid a scandal. The mass media wrote at the time that his wife supposedly has Russian citizenship and lives in occupied Crimea, and his daughter participated in competitions under the Russian flag.

Poland was outraged by FM Kuleba's statement

30,000 parishioners did not take part in the Pochayiv Lavra procession

People died in Kyiv from West Nile fever

Since June, 17 patients with West Nile fever have been in Kyiv's Saint Michael's Clinical Hospital. Three of them died from complications.

West Nile fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquito bites. In Ukraine, it was classified as particularly dangerous.
