India's envoy with "peaceful efforts", Zelenskyy's new advisers, achievements of Paralympians: September 8 highlights

Media reports that India will send an envoy to Moscow to discuss "peace efforts" with regard to Ukraine. Head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed advisers for himself and the deputy head of the President's Office. The Ukrainian national team won 82 medals at the 2024 Paralympics. We collected the main news for September 8.

Attacks

The bodies of two men were recovered from the rubble of the hotel in the town of Mykolaivka, Donetsk Oblast, which was attacked by Russian troops on the evening of September 7.

On the morning of September 8, Russian troops struck Sumy. As a result of the attack, two people were killed and four others were injured. Among the injured are two children.

The aggressor also attacked the village of Cherkaske in Donetsk Oblast. Three women died and two men were injured.

In Kherson, Russian troops dropped explosives on a minibus: four people were injured.

In addition, the Russians hit the town of Derhachi in the Kharkiv district with a Tornado-S multiple rocket launcher. A 76-year-old woman died, and 13 other residents suffered injuries of varying severity.

Zelenskyy appointed new advisers for himself

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has appointed two new advisers to the head of state and two new deputy heads of the Office of the President under Andriy Yermak.

Journalist Dmytro Lytvyn, who is one of the authors of the president's speeches, and Alexander Kamyshin, former head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries, became Zelenskyy’s advisers.

India will reportedly send an envoy to Moscow to discuss Ukraine

India Today, with reference to its own sources, writes that next week the national security advisor of the Prime Minister of India, Ajit Doval, will visit Moscow. He will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss "peaceful efforts" regarding Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian national team won 82 medals at the 2024 Paralympics

At the Paralympic Games in Paris, the Ukrainian national team won 82 awards and took seventh place in the medal count. According to the number of awards, Ukrainian athletes came fifth.

On the last day of the competition, the Ukrainian national team won three medals - gold and two silver.

Ukrainian Defense Intelligence hackers attacked Russian military enterprises

On September 7, cyber specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine attacked a number of Russian resources involved in the war in Ukraine.

In total, Ukrainian hackers managed to destroy 14 servers. Also, on the websites of the attacked resources, cyber-intelligence specialists posted greetings on the Day of Military Intelligence of Ukraine.

Shahed UAVs flew into Romania

Overnight, Russian troops again attacked Ukraine with Shahed attack drones. Air defense forces shot down 15 enemy drones and one Kh-59 missile.

During the onslaught, drones once again violated the airspace of Romania.

The day before, on September 7, a Russian military drone crashed in the east of Latvia. It flew there from Belarus.

Iranian Foreign Ministry: We are not part of the Russo-Ukrainian war

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran stated that Tehran was never a part of the Russo-Ukrainian war and supports its political settlement.

That is how they commented on the alleged transfer of short-range Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia for the war against Ukraine.

At the same time, a member of the National Security Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, admitted that the country is "forced" to barter with the Russian Federation: Moscow gives Iran soybeans and wheat, and Iran gives it missiles and drones.

CIA: In the fall of 2022, Russia could have used nuclear weapons

The head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, said that in 2022 there was a real risk of Russia using tactical nuclear weapons.

The official said that at that moment the US president sent him to Turkiye, where he was supposed to meet with the head of the Russian foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin.

Commissioner Lubinets: Russian prisoners were forbidden to call home

Ukraine has banned Russian prisoners of war from making phone calls. Such restrictions do not contradict the Geneva Convention, said Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
