Leopard 1 tanks, all-terrain vehicles and ammunition: new aid package from Germany

Germany has provided Ukraine with a new military aid package including Leopard 1 tanks, anti-aircraft guns, all-terrain vehicles, drones, and 155mm ammunition.

This is reported on the website of the German government.

In general, the aid package includes:

  • 22 Leopard 1 A5 tanks (jointly with Denmark);
  • 22 mine resistant ambush protected vehicles (MRAP)
  • 5 tracked all-terrain vehicles Bandvagn 206;
  • 1 all-terrain tracked carrier warthog (command vehicle);
  • 3 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns GEPARD with spare parts;
  • 2 air surveillance radars TRML-4D;
  • 61 thousand rounds 155mm ammunition;
  • 30 reconnaissance drones VECTOR with spare parts;
  • 20 reconnaissance drones RQ-35 HEIDRUN;
  • 20 unmanned surface vessels;
  • 12 reconnaissance drones SONGBIRD;
  • 6 Hornet XR reconnaissance drones.

In addition, the package includes:

  • 3 bridge-laying tanks BEAVER with spare parts;
  • 1 armoured engineer vehicle DACHS;
  • 6 mine clearing tanks WISENT 1 with spare parts;
  • material for explosive ordnance disposal;
  • 16 ground surveillance radars;
  • 2 AMPS self-protection systems for helicopters;
  • 2 border protection vehicles;
  • 112 vehicles (trucks, minibuses, all-terrain vehicles);
  • 8 tankers Zetros.

Germany also handed over machine gun MG3 with spare barrels and breechblocks, and another 1 million rounds of ammunition for fire arms.

In total, Germany has provided or pledged to provide military assistance to Ukraine in the coming years worth approximately 28 billion euros.

In 2024, approximately 7.1 billion euros will be allocated for military assistance to Ukraine. In 2022-2023, the country provided assistance worth approximately 6.6 billion euros.

In addition, more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have undergone military training in Germany. The cost of this training is currently approximately 282 million euros.
