Russian troops capture Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast
Russian troops occupied the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian units left the contested city, reported hromadske’s sources in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade that defended the settlement and the analytical platform DeepState.
However, as of 9:00 p.m. on the pages of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 72nd Brigade, there was no information about the capture of Vuhledar by the Russians and the withdrawal of the Ukrainian military from the city.
On the morning of October 1, Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin reported that fighting continues within the city. According to him, 107 people remained in Vuhledar. Earlier, Filashkin noted that they flatly refuse to leave. However, according to him, all the children were evacuated.
DeepState writes that the Russians put up their flags in all districts of the city.
The day before, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Russian troops had achieved success on the western flank of Vuhledar, but not within the limits of the settlement.
At the same time, public broadcaster Suspilne, citing sources in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, writes that as of the evening of October 1, some parts of Vuhledar were still under the control of the Defense Forces, although most of the city was already occupied.
The sources of the TV channel also noted that the brigade did not receive an order to leave the city.
The situation at the front
In the summary for 4 p.m., the General Staff reported 74 combat clashes since the beginning of the day, October 1. It was noted that the Russian invasion forces continue to actively operate in the Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, Kupyansk and Lyman axes.
The General Staff did not report on the battles in Vuhledar.
