First volunteers of Ukrainian Legion in Poland sign contracts with Armed Forces

In Poland, the first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported Ukrinform.

The procedure itself took place in the recruiting center at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin. Each of the volunteers signed the contract in turn.

According to the representative of the center, Petro Horkusha, more than 600 people have already applied to join the Ukrainian Legion. Just a week ago, more than 500 people from 30 countries of the world were reported — most from those living in Poland and the Czech Republic.

The recruiting center said that legion volunteers could sign a contract for three years or until the end of the war. After that, they will be sent to one of the training grounds in Poland for training.

More about the Ukrainian Legion

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after signing a bilateral security agreement with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, announced that Kyiv and Warsaw agreed on the formation of a volunteer military unit from Ukrainian citizens residing in EU countries.

He said that the Ukrainian Legion will train in Poland and will be equipped with partners. In July, it was reported that several thousand Ukrainians had already joined the legion. At the same time, they wrote that the first Ukrainian brigade had allegedly begun to be prepared in Poland.

However, later the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, denied this information. According to him, it was not possible to recruit enough volunteers to form a brigade.
