Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces seized the village of Dvorichna in Kharkiv Oblast on January 28, but Ukrainian authorities dismissed the report as propaganda, according to regional governor Oleg Synegubov, news agency Ukrinform reports.

In a morning statement, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov congratulated troops for the alleged capture. Synegubov, however, told Ukrinform there was no evidence of occupation, calling the claim “divorced from reality.”

“This is not the first such statement from the Russian Defense Ministry. It’s pure propaganda,” the Khrakiv regional governor said, adding that active battles continue in the area amid expanding combat zones near Kupyansk and Borova.

Evacuations from frontline villages remain slow, with only about 50 residents leaving daily. Synegubov noted many refuse to abandon their homes despite escalating dangers.
