In three years, Russia carried out over 30 massive attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure – Minister Halushchenko

In the three years since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has carried out more than 30 massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, announced the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Halushchenko.

The total damage from these attacks is estimated at billions of dollars.

Halushchenko noted that Russia is using energy as a weapon, trying to leave Ukraine without power and heat. Each massive attack is 100-300 weapons of destruction simultaneously, which hit power plants, substations, power lines and gas infrastructure.

In addition, the Russian Federation carries out targeted strikes on energy facilities every day, and also creates the threat of a nuclear disaster by attacking critically important facilities near nuclear power plants.

Today, Russia controls 18 GW of electricity, including hydroelectric and thermal power plants, as well as the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The energy minister also said that a few hours before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine disconnected from the energy systems of Russia and Belarus. The isolation regime was planned to last three days, but the country did not return to the enemy's grid.

Under such conditions, the Ukrainian power system withstood 21 days of autonomous operation and on March 16, 2022, joined the European ENTSO-E.
