Air defense destroys 3 missiles, 23 drones used by Russia to attack Ukraine
Russian forces launched six missiles and 37 attack drones, including Shahed models and decoy drones, targeting Ukraine overnight into April 18, with Ukrainian air defenses destroying 26 of the enemy’s aerial targets, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
The Russian assault included one Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from occupied Crimea, five Iskander-K cruise missiles from occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia Oblast and Crimea, and 37 Shahed attack drones and decoy drones from Millerovo and Kursk in Russia.
Ukraine’s defense response involved fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups. The Air Force confirmed the destruction of three Iskander-K cruise missiles and 23 drones, with an additional 10 drones lost to radar without causing harm.
Consequences of the attack
In Kharkiv, Russian missile strikes on the morning of April 18 killed one person and injured more than 60, damaging a civilian enterprise, over 20 apartment buildings, and more than 30 private homes, local authorities reported.
In Sumy, Russian Shahed drones struck a confectionery workshop, damaging production facilities for traditional Easter breads. One person was killed, and another was injured, according to local officials.
