Russia faces massive drone attack, flights suspended in multiple cities
Over 100 drones attacked Russia overnight into Tuesday, targeting Moscow and several regions, damaging homes and prompting temporary airport closures, Russian Telegram channels reported, citing local sources and officials.
Residents reported drones in Lipetsk, Ryazan, Tula, and Tambov oblasts, with air defenses activated in some areas, per the Russian Telegram channel Shot.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that all drones targeting the capital were destroyed, but falling debris damaged residential buildings.
The attack led to flight suspensions at several airports, including Domodedovo near Moscow, as well as in Nizhny Novgorod, Ivanovo, Kaluga, and Nizhnekamsk, where authorities implemented the “Carpet” emergency protocol.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed 105 drones, allegedly launched by Ukraine, were shot down, but Kyiv has not commented on the incident.
