Russian forces struck a Ukrainian Ground Forces training ground in Poltava Oblast with a missile on Wednesday, injuring soldiers, though safety measures prevented worse outcomes, the Ground Forces reported.

At the time of the attack, soldiers were conducting training exercises, but dispersal of personnel and use of shelters during an air raid alert minimized casualties.

Injured troops are receiving treatment at specialized medical facilities, and a special commission has been established to investigate the incident and assess damages, with findings to be released upon completion.

The Air Force had warned of a Russian missile heading toward Poltava, and local Suspilne correspondents reported hearing an explosion in the city earlier.

The strike follows a June 1 Russian Iskander missile attack on the 239th Cherkaske training ground in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which killed 12 and injured over 60, leading to the resignation of then-Ground Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi, now Joint Forces Commander.
