Drone attack halts production at Russian military equipment factory

Several Russian regions were targeted by drones overnight into June 9. In Chuvashia, a fire broke out at an enterprise manufacturing goods for the Russian army, as reported by the Governor of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev, the Russian Ministry of Defense, and local Telegram channels.
According to Nikolaev, in Cheboksary, the capital of Chuvashia, two drones fell on the territory of JSC VNIIR-Progress, causing it to temporarily suspend production.
The Telegram channel Astra reported that locals heard explosions followed by a large fire.
The incident occurred at the VNIIR-Progress plant, which produces Kometa receivers for the Russian military. These receivers are designed to protect Russian drones from Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
Additionally, in 2024, propagandists released a segment about the Kometa-M, claiming that on the front lines, Russians "successfully use" FAB-250M-62/270 aerial bombs with UMPK munition guidance kits. The Kometa-M antenna module was said to assist in targeting, and it was claimed that electronic warfare forces could not cope with it.
Overall, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 49 drones. The highest number, 13 each, were intercepted over the Kursk and Nizhny Novgorod oblasts, 9 each over the Voronezh and Oryol oblasts, 2 each over Bryansk Oblast and the Chuvash Republic, and 1 over Belgorod Oblast.
