Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Savasleyka airbase in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast overnight into June 9, targeting aircraft used for attacks on Ukraine, as reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The operation was carried out by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces in coordination with other units of the Defense Forces.

The Savasleyka airbase is used by Russian forces to launch attacks on Ukrainian territory. Specifically, MiG-31K fighter jets, which carry Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, frequently take off from this location.

Preliminary information indicates that two aircraft were hit. These are likely MiG-31 and Su-30/34 aircraft. The results of the operation are still being verified, according to the General Staff.
