Zelenskyy awards Hero of Ukraine titles to three fallen warriors

During his evening address on Monday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that documents are being prepared to posthumously award the Hero of Ukraine title to three servicemen: aviation Colonel Dmytro Fisher, Azov Regiment fighter Nazariy Hryntsevych, known by the call sign “Hrienka,” and Vitaliy Karvatskyi, known as “Tourist,” from the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.
“We do not forget our fallen warriors. We honor their memory and recognize them with state awards,” Zelenskyy stated.
Dmytro Fisher commanded a squadron of the 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade. He participated in battles to liberate Kyiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv oblasts, as well as the operation to retake Snake Island. He carried out combat missions on a Su-27 and was killed on June 5, 2022, during a mission near Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Fisher was among the first Ukrainian pilots to fly an F-16 during a training flight at the 2011 Safe Skies exercise.
Nazariy Hryntsevych was the youngest defender of Mariupol’s Azovstal plant. He spent over four months in Russian captivity and, after his release in September 2022, founded the “Contact 12” special forces group within the Azov Brigade. He died on May 6, 2024.
Vitaliy Karvatskyi joined the military after Russia’s full-scale invasion began, while still a graduate student. He initially served in the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade before transferring to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. He was killed on June 11, 2025, in the Kharkiv sector.
