SBU nabs Belarusian KGB agent in Volyn Oblast for spying

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) counterintelligence disrupted Belarusian special services’ plans to gather intelligence on Ukraine’s northern border defenses, announcing the detention of a Belarusian KGB agent, the SBU said in a statement.
According to the agency, a 24-year-old unemployed resident of Volyn was detained for spying on Ukrainian troops. He sought “easy money” through Telegram channels and agreed to carry out tasks for Belarusian intelligence, the SBU said.
His primary assignments included monitoring the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces’ checkpoints and fortified areas along the northern border. The suspect also attempted to identify military trains moving on local railway tracks or stationed at Ukrzaliznytsia transit points, per KGB orders.
To collect intelligence, the agent scouted areas, noting Defense Forces’ fortifications and marking their geolocations on Google Maps.
He was apprehended at his residence, where SBU seized a phone containing an anonymous messenger chat used to communicate with a Belarusian intelligence operative, already identified by counterintelligence.

The operation also enhanced security for Ukrainian defenders’ basing points and logistical routes.
Investigators charged the suspect under Article 111, Part 2, of Ukraine’s Criminal Code—treason committed under martial law. He is in custody and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.s
