Overnight, Russian forces launched a missile strike using cluster munitions on a training unit of Ukraine’s Land Forces, resulting in casualties, its press service reported.

The Land Forces stated that personnel were promptly notified of the “missile threat” alert. However, during their movement to shelters, a group of soldiers was hit by cluster munitions.

One soldier was killed, 11 were injured with varying degrees of severity, and 12 others sought medical attention for acoustic trauma (concussion) and acute stress.

The Land Forces expressed condolences to the family and friends of the fallen soldier. They emphasized ongoing efforts to equip training centers, ranges, and other military facilities with reliable shelters and to implement additional safety measures to protect personnel during enemy missile and air attacks.

Russian forces have repeatedly targeted Ukrainian training grounds. In June alone, two such incidents were reported.

On June 1, an Iskander missile struck the 239th Cherkaske training ground in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, killing 12 and injuring over 60, prompting the resignation of Mykhailo Drapatyi, then Land Forces commander and now Joint Forces commander.

On June 4, a missile strike hit a training unit in Poltava Oblast, killing two.

On June 22, a Russian missile strike on a training ground in Kherson Oblast killed three and injured 11.
