On July 21, a Russian strike targeted a training camp of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate’s International Legion in Kropyvnytskyi, resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens of foreign volunteers, The New York Times reported, with hromadske sources previously confirming significant foreign fatalities.

According to The New York Times, the attack struck the camp’s dining hall as volunteers were sitting down to eat.

Three legion soldiers told the outlet that recruits from the United States, Colombia, Taiwan, Denmark, and other countries were affected, describing it as one of the deadliest strikes on foreign fighters during the full-scale war.

An American recruit from Florida, who requested anonymity, said the strike also ignited an ammunition depot, causing additional explosions and shrapnel while survivors tried to aid the wounded.

He reported applying tourniquets to several severely injured soldiers and helping transport them to ambulances, trucks, and private vehicles for evacuation to hospitals. He witnessed at least 15 dead and over 100 wounded.

The recruit noted that no air raid siren sounded before the strike, and the dining hall lacked first-aid kits.

International Legion spokesperson Volodymyr Kaminskyi said an investigation is ongoing, and casualty figures cannot be disclosed until it concludes.
