Russian strikes spark emergency power outages in Kyiv and nine Ukrainian regions
Emergency blackouts hit Kyiv and nine Ukrainian regions after Russian forces targeted energy infrastructure overnight into Friday, Ukrenergo reported.
The state-owned grid operator said significant numbers of households lost power in the capital along with Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava and Odesa oblasts due to the strikes.
Energy workers are rushing to restore stable supply, with the outages set to lift once the grid stabilizes.
More on the assault
Russian troops unleashed a massive barrage of more than 450 drones and over 30 missiles on Ukraine in the early hours of Friday, hammering Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast the hardest.
The attacks left Kyiv's left bank in the dark and struck a residential building in the Pecherskyi district, injuring 12 people.
In Zaporizhzhia, a 7-year-old boy was killed and gas infrastructure damaged.
