Welt journalists injured in Russian drone attack while reporting on Ukrainian air defenses
German Welt journalists suffered shrapnel wounds from a Russian Lancet drone strike while reporting on a Ukrainian air defense subunit in eastern Ukraine, where one accompanying soldier was killed, reporter Ibrahim Naber said on Facebook.
The attack occurred 25-30 kilometers from the front line. Just minutes before the strike, the journalists were interviewing three soldiers from the air defense unit and were only a few meters away from them at the moment of impact.
Naber emphasized that everyone was wearing markings indicating they were journalists during the filming.
As a result of the attack, one of the three Ukrainian soldiers they were working with, named Kostiantyn, was killed. Another soldier suffered severe injuries. The journalists' producer, Ivan, required surgery, while the cameraman Viktor and Naber himself sustained only minor wounds.
The German journalist said he has begun raising funds for the Ukrainian soldier who had a leg amputated after the Russian attack.
