Drones massively attack Russia, with chemical plant and thermal power plant likely targeted
Drones launched a massive attack on Russian territory overnight into Thursday. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have downed 287 drones, according to a statement from the Russian agency.
In particular, the city of Veliky Novgorod came under fire as local Governor Alexander Dronov reported air defense operations in the region.
The Russian Telegram channel ASTRA wrote that in Veliky Novgorod, the Acron plant — one of Russia's largest mineral fertilizer producers — came under drone attack.
The Acron plant produces nitrogen and complex fertilizers, as well as industrial products. Its lineup includes ammonium nitrate, a component that has industrial applications in both civilian and military sectors.
In addition, drones attacked Dorogobuzh in Smolensk Oblast. ASTRA wrote that another fertilizer plant may have come under fire there. Meanwhile, Ukrainian OSINT resources claim a local thermal power plant was likely targeted.
Explosions were also heard in Moscow Oblast, including in Zelenograd.
In Bryansk Oblast, local Gov. Alexander Bogomaz reported that five apartment buildings and several cars were damaged, allegedly due to a drone attack.
Kyiv has not commented on this attack so far.
