Russia modifies Geran-2 drones with R-60 missiles to attack Ukrainian aircraft — Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence

Russia upgraded old Soviet-era R-60 air-to-air missiles for installation on Geran-2 drones of “Э” series, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence says.
The Russians are installing R-60 missiles on their drones to target Ukrainian helicopters and aircraft that are intercepting Russian drones. The missile with an aviation launch device is mounted on a special bracket located in the upper front part of the Geran’s fuselage.
The drone is also equipped with two network cameras — in the nose and behind the missile launch device. Video transmission and control commands are carried out via a Chinese mesh modem.
The experts assume that the cameras installed on the drone transmit video signals via a mesh modem to the operator. If they detect a Ukrainian aircraft or helicopter appearing in the strike zone, the operator sends a launch command to the missile's automatic control unit. After launch, the R-60's uncooled seeker head independently locks onto the target.
Russian drones are also equipped with various electronics manufactured in the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, China, the United States, Switzerland, and other foreign countries.
