The Defence Forces of Ukraine have withdrawn from Siversk in Donetsk Oblast. Heavy fighting continues in the area around the city, says the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the military, Russian forces have a significant advantage in manpower and equipment and, despite substantial losses, continue to actively advance.

Therefore, in order to save the lives of Ukrainian defenders and maintain the combat capability of their units, Ukrainian forces withdrew from the city.

“During the battles for Siversk, the Ukrainian Defence Forces exhausted the enemy, with every metre of the city coming at a high price for the enemy. The invaders were able to advance thanks to their significant advantage in manpower and constant pressure from small assault groups in difficult weather conditions,” said the General Staff.

The city remains under the fire control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian forces in Siversk are being targeted, and their logistics are also being cut off. The defence forces are working to block Russian units to prevent their further advance.

Ukrainian forces continue to carry out combat missions in the Sloviansk direction, reducing Russian offensive potential.
