Ukraine has approved a ceasefire plan with Russia that outlines a phased response to violations, with the U.S. prepared to join coordinated military action only after 72 hours, leaving Ukraine to respond alone in the first 24 hours, the Financial Times writes, according to Reuters.

The response plan consists of three stages. In the first 24 hours after a violation, Ukraine would take initial measures, starting with diplomatic warnings and, if necessary, military actions.

If fighting continues, the second stage would activate forces from a “coalition of the willing” including several EU countries, Britain, Norway, Iceland, and Turkiye.

Only after 72 hours would a coordinated response involving U.S. military forces be triggered.

The framework was discussed multiple times in December and January by Ukrainian, European, and American officials. Delegations from Kyiv and Washington are set to meet Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi in the coming days to discuss ending the war.
