Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that the military transport plane An-26, whose “disappearance” over Crimea was reported the day before, has crashed. As a result, 29 people died, the Russian department said in a comment to the propaganda outlet RIA Novosti.

Among the dead were six crew members and 23 “passengers.”

Technical malfunction was named as a preliminary cause of the crash. Because of it, the plane reportedly hit a rock, news agency TASS quoted a source at the scene.

The day before, in the evening, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the loss of contact with the military transport plane An-26 that “was performing a scheduled flight over Crimea.”

At the same time, the ministry assured that there had been “no impact strike on the aircraft.”
