Russia fires ballistic missiles and swarms of drones at Ukraine despite declared truce

Russian forces launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, one guided air missile, and 108 drones at Ukraine overnight into Wednesday, the Ukrainian Air Force reported, as attacks continued across multiple regions despite Ukraine's declared ceasefire regime.

According to preliminary data, Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 89 Russian drones, including Shahed, Gerber, Italmas, and Paradiya decoy UAVs, primarily in the north and east of the country.

Direct hits from two ballistic missiles, one guided air missile, and nine strike drones were confirmed at eight locations. Debris impacts were recorded at one additional location.

What we know about the attacks

Despite Ukraine's declared ceasefire regime, which was set to take effect overnight into May 6, Russian forces continued striking Kharkiv, and the Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts throughout the night. In Kharkiv, at least seven private homes were damaged.

The casualty toll from Russian strikes on Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia on May 5 continued to rise. In Dnipro, the number of wounded climbed to 19, with four people confirmed killed. Russian forces struck the region more than 30 times using missiles, aerial bombs, artillery, and drones.

In Zaporizhzhia, as of this morning, 43 people were reported injured from the previous day's attack, with 18 hospitalized — four in critical condition and the rest in moderate condition. Russian forces struck Zaporizhzhia Oblast a total of 989 times over the course of the day.

Six people were killed in a Russian strike on Kramatorsk on May 5. An additional 14 people were reported injured across Donetsk Oblast over the same 24-hour period.

Kherson Oblast also came under Russian attack throughout the day. Russian forces targeted social infrastructure, residential neighborhoods, a cell tower, a warehouse, ambulances, and private vehicles. Regional administration head Oleksandr Prokudin reported 10 people wounded and one person killed.
