Ukraine confirms destruction of Russian MiG-29 jet and Ka-27 helicopter in recent strikes
Ukraine's military has confirmed the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet and a Ka-27 helicopter in recent strikes on Russian airfields, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Sept. 2.
Ukrainian forces destroyed the MiG-29 near the Millerovo airfield in Russia's Rostov Oblast on Aug. 27, according to the General Staff. The Ka-27 helicopter was destroyed near the Yeisk airfield in Krasnodar Krai on Aug. 30.
Ukraine previously reported striking Millerovo, which it said was used as a launch site for Russian drones, and the Yeisk airfield as part of a series of attacks on Russian military targets.
The General Staff also said Ukrainian forces struck several other Russian military sites on Sept. 1 and overnight into Sept. 2, including an ammunition depot and a logistics warehouse in Russian-occupied Donetsk Oblast, as well as a concentration of Russian weapons and military equipment in Bryansk Oblast.
The extent of the damage from those strikes is still being assessed.
