Rail traffic halted in two Russian regions after attacks, bridge partially collapses
Rail traffic was suspended in Russia's Bryansk and Kaluga regions after attacks on railway infrastructure partially collapsed a bridge and derailed 28 freight cars, according to Russian officials.
Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for the attacks. Ukraine has not commented on the claims.
In Bryansk Oblast, an acting regional official said a drone attack on the Dyatkovo–Lyudinovo railway section caused part of a bridge to collapse and derailed 10 freight cars.
Another 18 empty freight cars derailed following an attack in the region's Unechsky district, while railway tracks were damaged in the Navlinsky district, according to the official.
No casualties were reported.
The Moscow Railway said train traffic in both Bryansk and neighboring Kaluga oblasts had been suspended because of what it described as Ukrainian attacks on railway infrastructure.
Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's railway network during its full-scale invasion.
Earlier in September, a Russian drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw near the Yahodyn border crossing, about two kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Polish border.
A diplomatic train carrying European security officials and former officials, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, had been at the station shortly before the strike.
